MUKH DEKHE JAAY BIGGAAPANE / SANKHA GHOSH

FACE DISAPPEARS BEHIND ADS

All along I am standing
For you around the comer of the lane
I think I will show you my face
But the face disappears behind ads.

A simple thing or two
I think I have a mind to say through side long glances
(But) it blazes forth dazzlingly
In ads in a riot of colours.

What one exactly thinks of others
Is very difficult to comprehend
Has my exaggerations
Has my mother land!

You-and even the glances of your eyes
Even the glances you and I exchanged
Have been sold out along with you
All that was private has been turned into
neon-lit merchandise.

The words once spoken
Now lie discarded in a corner of the lame
Only my tired mask
Keeps dangling in the ads.
