एक सपना

एक सपना

A Dream

A dream
… what a dream
I saw one night

A line, surrounded by lights
scribbled by the stars
was what I was turning into

I, a lunar circle
a fat whale
surrounded by little flowers
There were fairies
and me

Such a dream
I saw

Share Poems 03: Poems of Protest

December 4, 2008

Violence, injustice, anguish, fear… are issues that poetry has addressed down the ages.

Poetry not only celebrates the tender and the beautiful, it is also often a mantra for struggle, an inspiration in crisis and a guiding light in dilemmas. Poetry is not just ‘a thing of beauty’… it also is a hand raised in protest or in prayer…

But sometimes of course, a hand raised in protest is the most poetic thing in this world! We share some memorable lines by Pablo Neruda and invite you to share lines from your favorite ‘Poems of Protest’

And you’ll ask: why doesn’t his poetry

speak of dreams and leaves

and the great volcanoes of his native land?

Come and see the blood in the streets.

Come and see

The blood in the streets.

Come and see the blood

In the streets!

– Pablo Neruda

from the poem: I’m Explaining A Few Things
