An Unusual Pet

The unusual pet I saw at the store
Is a creature thought not to exist anymore.

Even though he has sharp teeth and breathes fire
He is something people just stare at and admire.

He has gleaming blue scales and beautiful eyes,
He is sleek and stealthy and could be with the spies.

He is a creature I am glad to have met,
He is a creature I will never forget.

Once he broke free from the cage in the shop
People tried to catch him but he wouldn’t stop!

At last he did one of those miraculous things,
He started flying with his once inefficient wings.

Finally, he stopped at a place, a little house with a dome
He walked quietly through the open door and now I have a new friend at home!

Jingle Mingle Alkazam

The most frequent hosts in a ghost toaster
Are roasted ghosts burnt to the moster.
The warrior that has the most honour
Is always the one that is a complete goner.

The horrible noises that the haunted house made
Actually came from a baby who had lost his marmalade.
And the reason the dragon had fire to send
Was because he didn’t want the gas to come from the other end.

Truth

A giant golden eagle was causing a lot of trouble
He had reduced half of the village to rubble
So seven mighty monster slayers set out to kill the beast
But I thought what it wanted was no fleshy feast

For actually how the creature created the floods of fear
Was by dropping one of many a tear
And when the warriors killed the eagle and cut open the hide
They found nothing but a broken heart inside

Haiku

Softly flowing streams
Glistening in the moonlight
Keep the hills alive.

Gandhi’s Spiritual message
Near the beginning of his address, Gandhi says:

“In my tour last year in Mysore [State], I met many poor villagers, and I found upon inquiry that they did not know who ruled Mysore. They simply said some God ruled it. If the knowledge of these poor people was so limited about their ruler, I, who am infinitely lesser in respect to God than they to their ruler need not be surprised if I do not realize the presence of God, the King of Kings. Nevertheless I do feel as the poor villagers felt about Mysore, that there is orderliness in the universe.”

Kids’ Corner: Poem 01

CHAIL by Sidharth Saxena

(age 12)

Hindi

with an English version

Chail

Chail is a quiet place
where you can play cricket,
and watch a beautiful sunrise
if you wake up in time.
The setting sun finds you
wherever you are…
Kisses you with its warmth
before the icy night
leads you indoors.

Chail is the home of monkeys,
Where there are just monkeys.

I mean we and the monkeys,
and ‘NO CROWD’,

I knock at their door
and they let me in.
Maybe, they think I am a monkey…
Maybe, I am a monkey…
…or was one in my previous life!

I want a monkey as a pet
No, let me think…
If I take a monkey home,
I will find a friend
But he will lose his family.
And his friends with whom
he plays cricket with the ball
he took away last summer.

The monkey will miss the pranks
he plays on hapless tourists…
the fresh air and the tall trees.
My home is tiny as compared to his.
He will think it is a cage and
I’m another monkey caught in it.
